December is here and the chicken have come home to roost. Streaming platform, Boomplay Music has released its streaming statistics for the year 2022 and the list is one you won’t like to miss.
These are the statistics broken down for you for easy digestion. (winks)
The platform garnered a total of 7.5 billion streams between October 31, 2021 and October 21, 2022, an increase of 497%. 27,000 artistes also got verified on the platform within the same time frame, a percentage inc4rease of 155.
In Cameroon, Cysoul topped the chart for Best Male artiste (01/11/2021 to 01/11/2022), followed by serial hit maker, Ko-C and Ridimz. Stargirl, Rinyu clinched the spot for the female category, followed by Mimba Queen, Blanche Bailly and then gospel singer, Indira.
Indira continued topping the charts with most streamed album in Cameroon for 2022, with Souffle Nouveau. Lock’s Era and Cysoul’s Illusions albums followed suite.
Despite being gone, Fhish continues to leave a huge impact on the Cameroon music scene. He emerged alongside Krys M and Ful in the Best Revelations category.
Down to the hits, Akumba Music’s Rinyu again emerged at the top, with her song, ‘Controller’ emerging the most streamed song on Boomplay Music. ‘Shabasiko’ by now broken duo, Ridimz emerged second most streamed and Cysoul’s ‘Je tombe aussi’ in third place.
Mbole is one of Cameroon’s newest brands of music and it has never ceased to grow. The category got a special focus from Boomplay Music this year, with three most emblematic songs in the genre cited: ‘Mbandjoh’ by Les Rythmeurs ABC, ‘La fille’ la by Watto de Souza, and ‘Je n’ai rien fait’ by Happy d’Efoulan.
Worthy mentions
Beyond Cameroon, the battle for Top Male Artiste in Nigeria was fierce, with Burna Boy emerging in first place. He was followed by Asake and then hit maker, Kizz Daniel. Black Sherif conquered Ghana, assisted by Shatta Wale and then Lasmid in same category.
In Tanzania, Diamond Platnumz waked his talk followed by Harmonize and Marioo.
A big hand to those who made the list and other artistes working hard to put joy on the faces of music lovers. Truly, the fans are plenty but the streams are hard to come by.
