The Doual’Art Music Festival’s La Zone show is over but the vibe remains. One of the highlights of September 25, 2022 – second day of the festival, was the homage to late Aponglem Lesly, aka Fhish.
For a minute, the thousands present at the festival raised their hands to the sky in honour of the late singer, as one of his hit songs, ‘Njoh’ blasted from the loudspeakers.
The late artiste’s self-proclaimed protégés mounted the stage moments after the tribute, dedicating their performance to him.
With Fhish-like dance choreography, rhythm and chants, they put up a 30-minute display that left many chanting their names all night. The duo performed multiple tracks off their catalogue including ‘100 problem’, ‘nobi lie’ and ‘Ajigi jaga’.
Ego & Prido shot to prominence months back when a freestyle clip of theirs went viral. Many immediately compared them to Fhish, given that they mirrored his styled of performance, delivery and themes of music. They would go on to cement the link in an EP titled Reincarnation.
Fhish, it should be recalled, died on December 23rd, 2022. He was victim of a car accident along the Tiko-Douala highway, with two others. Many have since continued to celebrate his legacy and impact as one of the pillars of new school urban music in Cameroon.
Following his demise, the artiste’s last body of works were culled and released in an EP titled SILK.
Few days back, artiste, Ko-C and other entertainers came through for his daughter, paying her tuition and providing didactic materials as the new academic year kicked off.
